Three Natural Personal Care Products You Must Try!

My daughter and I have tried every kind of product you can imagine in our journey to lead a healthier and greener lifestyle.  We have tried and researched everything from deodorant to laundry soap to face and body lotions and more.  We have done the trial and error so you don’t have to!  You can be assured anything I blog about, has been tried by us personally or by someone we know personally.

Toothpaste

So it has taken me some time on my toothpaste journey to find the right product, along with all the other green changes we are trying to make in our home and our personal care products.  Of course we learned the dangers of Fluoride many years ago now and have tried many brands of Natural Non-Flouride toothpastes such as Burt’s Bees, Tom’s of Maine, Earth Paste and Hello.  My favorite out of all of those would probably be Hello.  For taste, foam factor, ingredients and cleanliness.  However, they still come in plastic tubes, bpa free yes, but still plastic nonetheless. But overall their ingredients are pretty clean, so if you like to stay with a tube I would definitely recommend Hello:

However, mine and my daughter’s new favorite toothpaste item are the NOBS Toothpaste Tabs by biom. They are free from all plastic and bpas and come in a glass container.  You just by the tablet refills.  Again, saving both the environment and your pocket at the same time.  Plus a big bonus is that you don’t have to watch the oz. limit on a flight because they are tablets NOT a liquid toothpaste! You just unscrew the lid, pop a tab in your mouth, bite down and start brushing! They contain no harsh ingredients and are made of stuff like coconut oil, calcium carbonate, and licorice root.  They do have xanthan gum and xylitol if that might be an issue for you.  But otherwise their ingredients are pretty great. They have thousands of good reviews of people switching from tubes to tabs because they are so pleased.  You can check them out here:

Shampoo and Conditioner

FountainHead

My daughter first found this brand trolling through Instagram.  You can find them on IG @fountainheadhair or their website www.fountainheadhair.com.  She loves their Aloe and Honey Conditioner.  Filled with only natural ingredients like aloe vera juice, honey, avocado oil and marshmallow root and delivered in a glass reusable pump bottle.  So you only have to buy the refills which is better for the environment and saves you money as well!  Plus she said it makes her hair so smooth, soft and shiny.  So this is now a new favorite in our house. You can buy the set as well with their Raw Honey Shampoo or try their hair oils like the moisturizing oil made of olive, coconut and avocado oil.  Or the Rosemary & Lavender Growth oil with ingredients like, jojoba, castor and black seed oil.  I have not tried their brand of Hair Growth oil yet, however I can attest from personal use that Rosemary oil certainly does help your hair to grow and I will be trying their brand of Rosemary & Lavender Growth Oil soon!

Kitsch Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

If you like bath or body bars, or have never tried them before, I would highly recommend starting with Kitsch products.  My daughter and I currently both have a Shampoo and Conditioner bar in the shower from them, inside little mesh drying bags.  You do have to get used to it if you have never tried a hair product in a bar before.  It takes a little bit of effort to get it to suds up either in your hands or directly on your hair.  It only takes about 30 seconds to get a good suds going, so it’s not a big deal.  And they do make your hair feel clean, soft and shiny while being composed of only natural ingredients.  The duo we have is the Rice Water Protein Shampoo and Conditioner Set.  I have wavy/curly hair.  So for me, anything with Argan oil or Coconut oil actually can dry my hair out and make it frizzier.  So if you have this type of hair I would recommend the Rice Water duo.  If you do not have this type of hair, they have a Coconut Oil duo, a Rosemary Biotin duo, Castor Oil duo, Tea Tree Mint duo and more.  They really try to include all hair types.  And again, like my blog about hand soaps, you have to make sure to keep them in the mesh drying bags, or they can gather bacteria.  That being said, I am more prone to use a pump liquid shampoo or conditioner like from FountainHead, but that’s because I’m lazy and don’t want to bother getting the bar to lather.  But I will still use the bars here and there, so please don’t let that extra little bit of effort deter you from trying the bars sometime. Plus I like to use them when traveling! The bars are smaller, lighter, and way easier to pack and transport around than a bottle of liquid! Find the Kitsch bars here:

Whipped Body Butter

If you’re like me, you hate dry, itchy skin. You may also be sensitive to certain products and only want healthy ingredients on your body.  I like lotions and body butters both so I have tried hundreds over the years.  And I LOVE this whipped body butter from the small Etsy shop TheWayOfTheRoot.  You can find them here:

I like other body butters I have tried on Etsy too, however when you really take the time to read the ingredients, some are definitely better than others.  I also like this brand Well Etched.  Shout out to them for amazing texture and smell, and so many scents to choose from.  However, they do use emulsifiers and mica.  So if you want 100% pure products with absolutely nothing potentially harmful, I would recommend TheWayOfTheRoot. Their ingredients are: shea butter, mango butter, jojoba oil, castor oil, essential oils for scent, arrowroot powder, earth clays and vitamin E.  That’s it.  She currently has about 8 scents to choose from like Sunkissed Mango or Lemon Buttercream.  It runs about $15 with free shipping.  And fun fact, did you know that ArrowRoot Powder is a great source of Potassium and B Vitamins.  It also has anti-inflammatory properties, promotes gut health and helps increase energy levels.  I use it in my cooking and for my gut health.  But it is a great ingredient to include in face or body products as it can reduce redness, itching or irritation and improve blood circulation.

Join me in my next blog where I will discuss natural lip balms and lip products, deodorants and feminine care products!  Check out my other blogs on the trees, poetry and other magical, witchy, green topics!  Future topics include; medicinal and magical properties of herbs and crystals, how to connect with the Fair Folk, how to talk to Tree Spirits and more!  Be good to yourself, to others and to Mother Gaia always!
